Jazz Jam! Camp
THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX!
It’s time for everyone to think outside the box and learn the ingredients of swing, funk, and ballads! Jazz Jam! Camp & Workshops led by Upper Darby’s own Hiruy (Henry) Tirfe. Henry’s “Recipe for Jazz” for young players, and Breakout Combos for recording sessions with faculty clinicians PLUS Masterclass Sessions with some of the best jazz players in the Philly scene!
Dates Tuesday July 6th through Friday July 9th, 9am-12pm.
Location Drexel Hill Middle School (3001 State Rd, Drexel Hill, PA 19026)
Cost $99 for residents of Upper Darby Township, $110 for non-residents
Campers must have 2 years experience on instrument. Band instruments only. Electric Bass/Guitar welcome. Elementary & Middle School students only. Can be new to jazz or have limited jazz experience.
We will be following CDC guidelines of social distancing , frequent hand washing, mask wearing and a nurse will be on site. Please view our full safety guidelines for 2021.
MEET OUR JAZZ JAM! CAMP DIRECTOR, HIRUY (HENRY) TIRFE!
A former student of Upper Darby’s MusicMan, Brad Schoener, Hiruy (Henry) Tirfe is a musician/saxophonist born in Philadelphia and raised in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. At only 25 years of age, Tirfe had amazing opportunities to perform with artists of all genres of music. Some artists include The Roots, Chill Moody, Solange Knowles, Eric Roberson, Patti LaBelle, Jay Bratten, Robin Eubanks, Ted Nash, Killiam Shakespeare, Beano French, Bilal Oliver and many other artists. Tirfe is also a two time “Outstanding Soloist” winner at the Next Generation Jazz Festival (2016, 2017).
Venues where Tirfe performed include Radio City Music Hall, Made In America Festival, AfroPunk Festival, Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival, 2017 NFL Draft, Monterey Jazz Festival, John F. Kennedy Center, NPR Tiny Desk Series and many others. When Tirfe isn’t on the stage, he is in the studio working with many different artists and bands.
In May 2017, Tirfe graduated from the University of the Arts with his Bachelors in Saxophone Performance with a minor in music education and received his Masters Degree in Music Education from the University of the Arts in 2018.
